Need a motivational kick

This is Edgar. Say 'Hello,' Edgar.

He's a little monster toy I've been working on since the summer. This picture is a little old, actually, as he now has the little knobbies on the side of his head that he's supposed to have. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a face. Still. That's really all that's keeping him from joining the ranks of FOs. The thing is, I've never made a toy before and have no idea how to go about doing it. His yarn is so busy, that just stitching something on probably won't show up, right? I don't want glass, teddy-bear eyes, either. Felt? How would I attach it? Just sew it on? I think I'm going to tackle that conundrum this weekend (I hope), but I don't quite know where to begin.

Any advice, input, motivational kicks-in-the-pants are welcome! :)

Wow, it's been a while!
Looking back to my previous post, the Adamas shawl had barely begun so maybe it'll get a slot after the 2 kal's finish, the cable jacket's visiting the frog pond iminently as I've discovered Matchmaker stretches (and I'm not knitting blood sweat and tears just to see it go huge!), the Gansey socks are finished as are 1.5 of the 4 christmas projects (I got realistic!).

I'm looking to after christmas Knitting when I might just spend a full month clearing half my UFO's followed by a month of spinning...which might mean an extra project or two gets sneaked in beforehand?

Well I didn't finish any of my UFO but then I haven't started new projects either! I have been so busy with work, depression, and to top it all I am moving house and business tomorrow (22nd of October). Once all the boxes have been unpacked I am planning to get back to normality and finish at least some of the UFO that I have now had around for a long long long time....

In the meantime thank you everyone who keeps posting on here, I will create a group in Ravelry as soon as I have the chance and hopefully will get more people to join too. Happy Knitting!

Another Finish Whippeee!!!

I finished the fingerless gloves that I was making for my BFs mom this past Saturday. I only have a photo of the first of the pair because I finished them up at his parents' house while she was out for the day!! Right under her nose and she had no idea, LOL! This was a fun pattern and I plan on making some more for myself and maybe some other people that I think will wear them.

So, I have

a baby sweater (the one I've posted before) made of Knit Picks Shine - which I really love knitting with.
The Blueberry Sweater (I named it) - the first one I've ever made for myself...I finished the knitting and the edges last night, but need to finish it off by weaving in the ends which I'll do this morning before work.

I think I'll go buy a spray bottle instead of drenching them with water...that sounds a lot less terrifying to me.

I haven't touched another U.F.O. since last I blogged but I've got so much on the go consecutively, some of it's got to fall in the U.F.o. category! Secret Pal (and plenty of prevarication!) is partly to blame, I needed a quick project to get in the post in a week or so and a second, more complex one for the second parcel.

Plus, the Gansey Socks are EVIL (for that read major frogging!)and should have been finished by now and I WAS finishing MS3. The fact that I've joined another knitalong starting October and have to knit at least 6 pairs of socks (not including the evil one!)for Christmas means I have to add:
Fresco Top
Cable Jacket
Adamas Shawl
and probably other stuff to my list!

(And I want to knit something Twinkle, like NOW!)
p.s. I'm also designing my own cardi from scratch, that time has to be slotted in there somewhere too!I'm teaching a design course in November so need to work out the gremlins (a few times) first.

Unfortunately, I need my sleep or that might be the answer!

During my vacation and the last 2 weeks at home, I knit and crocheted a few baby hats from leftover yarns and a hat for my son that matches a sweater I knit for him and started a sweater for me. Object Almost Finished

This is my first post to the UFO KAL. Sorry I've been so busy knitting that I haven't posted. Alas, I don't seem to have a lot finished to share. Perhaps because I'm trying all kinds of new things and they are taking longer than expected.

Well, here's the Blue Candy Cane (my name for it), from Knitty (called childHood by them). I made it without the hood to be economical on time and yarn and it came out quite nicely.

I used Knit Picks Shine worsted weight. I really like that yarn. I think I might make a little something for me from ivory or something, in the dk weight.

Still have to sew on buttons (for show) and snaps (for practicality), sew up the sides below the sleeves, and block it. The left (in the photo, left, on the sweater right) button band is all one color as a "design element" - or because I couldn't fathom another back and forth of changing color. Besides, it will be underneath most the time anyway.

At last one of my UFO's is a UFO no more. This is Noah from Rowan magazine 42 which I have knitted for my son. It was started at Easter and has been waiting to be stitched up for months now. I am very pleased with it and am sure he'll like it. My son was home last weekend and asked if I'd ever finished his sweater - so a sense of guilt urged me on to finish this. It will be ready for him to wear when he comes home for his birthday in 3 weeks.

My multidirectional scarf is finished! Um, and it only took a year. How embarrassing. This is really a brilliantly simple pattern, but I guess I got bored with it and this project really dragged. I used 2 skeins of Noro Big Kureyon in colorway #7.

New UFOs ...

You mean I am supposed to finish something before I start something else?!?! Well one of them should be finished soon because I want to send it with a swap package so there's a deadline!

I went to the yarn store Saturday and didn't bring a project with me figuring then I would not sit with the ladies all day and knit ... well I ended up looking in a magazine and seeing this great tank top and finding the perfect yarn for it ... so I bought the stuff and started it in the store! I am really hoping to finish this one up asap so that I can wear it this summer.

This is the project for a swap. This is going to be a soap bag for the Dog Days of Summer Dishcloth Exchange. I just started it yesterday so I hope to finish it up by the end of the week.

This was a project I started to bring with me on a plane trip. The yarn is Meditation by Skacel and it is just fantastic. It is infused with lavender and smells so nice while its knit up. This will be a small drawstring bag (and if it works up quickly enough I might keep this pattern in mind for future swaps!!)

These are what I am now referring to as my "Hufflepuff Socks" - I got this yarn and pattern from my partner in the Hogwart's Sock Kit swap (my house was Hufflepuff). And of course I just had to start them right away once I received my swap package!!!

I WAS feeling rather proud of myself this week...

..I spent half of the week knitting the rib on the jackety coaty thing, THEN a whole day sewing the darned thing up (actually, it behaved quite well and didn't throw any wobblies!). Here it is in all it's glory, an F.O. that needed more than a zip sewing in to finish it (I've modified the original pattern out of all recognition as it was so badly written!). I'm relatively pleased with it.

There are a few things I would tweak if I ever attempted something like that again, but hey, WACKY COLLAR!!!!

So, I started something new in honour of the event ( plus I need mindless knitting for my S'n'B group!). I'm past the chevrons and shaping so I can happily have a tipple and not screw anything up.

Then I found this...

...Has to be my oldest U.F.O. to date- the Alice Starmore I blogged about previously. No chance of frogging this one either, maybe an hour or two a week? Got to show some sort of encouragement to get motivated on this one, it's not too bad a knit (aside from I can never get colour knitted stitches to lie nicely), it's just the crappy 2 strand chenille I'm using's all ravelled round the back. Joy.

May I present: RPM in Regia Tundra. I can only show you one, as I have to locate it's partner....in the sock drawer. They will need to be washed and blocked and then Wifey can have them....

Well I went to the yarn store today and hung out for 2 1/2 hours knitting and talking to some people. I was working on my sock for the toe up sock class - which needs about 1 more inch of stockinette, then another inch of ribbing and the first one will be done! Later after I did some housework ... yes there's other stuff besides knitting I find out sometimes that need to be done, LOL! I picked up this hat again. While it is not yet complete, it is a whole hat now!!

The only thing left for the hat is to make the petals to finish off the upsidedown daisy and sew those on then weave in all the loose ends that are still hanging. Garfield was kind enough to model it, LOL!

And I did finish the dishcloth that I started and posted before for the dishcloth swap I am participating in. I am also going to try and whip up a nice soap bag to hold the bar of soap. I picked up yarn for it today and hope to have enough time to make it before the swap is due.

Hi everyone! I'm Tamar and I blog over over here. I'm glad to have found you because I have this crazy/naive idea that I can get some closure on my UFOs before the end of August, when I am due to have my first baby! There is lots of inspiration here and I've already made a little progress since joining up - if only sorting out my lagging projects and figuring out what I need to do.

First up is a Shedir hat . I'm embarrassed to say when exactly I started this, and admittedly I did have to frog back the whole star section at the top, so hopefully the second time around I will be able to put it to rest.

Next are some "Rib and Cable Socks" from the Fall 2005 Interweave Knits. The first sock is done, but I'm dawdling on its mate.

Another project in need of a mate...these stripey gloves made with a pattern from The Knitter's Handy Book of Patterns.

I know, this one looks like a weird reddish blob, but it's actually one of my favorites of the projects I'm working on: the "Short and Sweet" jacket from The Happy Hooker.

This here is a multidirectional scarf, presently much farther along than what you see here.

Finally, there's Jeff's Aran. I love working on this sweater, but all the little projects keep getting in my way. I don't feel the need to finish this one anytime soon, but I'd like to make some progress on it.

One UFO I decided to frog entirely: poor Branching Out from Knitty taught me the basics of lace knitting, but I just didn't feel like knitting the whole scarf.

Well, hopefully soon I'll be doing a FO report!

2 UFOs down...

... but the next ones already started. But first, here are the finished items:
My sneaker socks are finally done and they are all mine - in fact they are the only socks I knit for myself except the first pair... And said pair was too losely knit and had a hole in at after 4 weeks
And this is the patch for the pillow round robin, I'm really glad I finished it and I hope the yarn for the next knitter will be better to knit. In reality, it is a square and doesn't look like above, I just didn't lay it out straight enough for the photo...

And now to the new project, I did not make any photos yet. I'm knitting a sweater and a hat for the newly born daughter of a friend who happens to have her birthday this thursday. So I just have 2 more days to finish both, but I just have to knit 1 1/2 sleeves and 1/2 of the hat... Hopefully I will finish it in time and they will not turn into UFOs

Yaay!
It may have taken me 5 hours to sew in a blinking zip, but at least it's one off the list!

Of course, whether it does ANYTHING for me is another issue for another day, but at least it's FINISHED!!

Oh yeah, and I found the front to the hideous fluffy sweater and took great pleasure in frogging it Sunday evening whilst watching Big Brother.

I'm going to re-evaluate the list and pick something that needs knitting up next 'cos I've finished the SIXTH Jaywalker and completed clue 3 for this week so I'm only down to 2 current projects...how will I cope?

One UFO Completed ... Another 2 created!

Well I get one UFO completed and then I start two more. At least the two I started have deadlines, but that means my other UFOs get put on hold!

This is a headband for a friend who's birthday was last month, but we haven't gotten together to celebrate yet, so I am not late :o)

This is sock #1 from the toe up sock class I am talking. I hope to get 4" more completed by Wednesday night so that I can start working on the heel at the beginning of class.

This is a dishtowel for a swap that I started last week. It only needs 12 more rows and bind off, so I hope to finish it this week. The package does not need to be sent until August, so I have plenty of time for this one :o)

Here are the photos of my UFO, as I promised... I had no time yet to finish one of them, I had to crochet some quick oven mitts, my partner just informed me a few days ago, that the birthday of his mom is next tuesday... but they are finished now and I'm determined to work on my UFOs first for now...

First one is a sweater for a doll, knit with hand-dyed yarn... just the back is finished.

Next one is this scarf with a lacey pattern, knit with a designer yarn and 6mm needles... I found it difficult to knit a pattern with my almost 3 year old boy running around, so I have just about 60cm finished and put it on a hold

Those socks are for my mom, knit with 100% cotton yarn, I finished the first one, didn't even cast on the second

These sneaker socks are all mine, when I finally finish them. I started them last year, stopped somewhere in the middle of the first. As for now, the first is finished and the second one half way way through the foot... I have knit a bit more since I took the photo

This will be a square patch for a pillow, it's like a round robin for knitting. But I don't like the yarn, its a scratchy 100% acrylic yarn... I have one more week to finish it

This bunny I started sometimes last year for a friend, when it was almost done, she told me she doesn't want it any more... I got so frustrated, I never finished the second leg and the face...
Pattern is from Crochet Pattern a Day Calendar 2006, it is supposed to be a teddy and I changed the ears and added a bunny tail.

With this rainbow colored yarn, I intended to make 4 pillows for my son... I finished 2 last year and stopped after a bit more than half of the 3rd...

That's everything I could find so far, but there are possibly more somewhere hidden...

The single sock is a sock no more- 1 down.
The Patons Spirit back part has been frogged- half down
The Snowflake Chunky Magic has been systematically unpicked and frogged, right down to the last stitch- definitely either a charity shop donation or knitting group pass on lest I feel tempted to knit again!

Intro & My UFOs :o)

Hello everyone,

What a fantastic Knit-A-Long finishing up those UFOs!! I am guilty of UFOs because (well this is my excuse anyway and I'm sticking to it) I learned to knit last Fall and there are just so many things I want to knit and so little time.

I am from Massachusetts, USA and I work full time for a company that makes optical filters. I work in the test department and test the in process and final products. Sometimes it is boring, but the atmosphere and people are really great so I enjoy working there (much better than my last job where we got yelled at in a staff meeting once a week). I also work part-time (to fund my yarn addiction) at a salon as a manicurist. I live with my BF and three cats and a dog. I love sci-fi and I am usually reading a few books when I am not knitting. I also crochet, rubber stamp and cross-stitch.

And now on to the UFOs:

	This is one of a pair of fingerless gloves that I am making for my BF's mom. She taught me how to knit and I wanted to make a little something for her. This is the first one of the pair, there were a few bumps and mistakes that I hope I can cover up once its complete with a little creative sewing work.
	This is a reversible cable pattern from Cables Untangled by Melissa Leapman. I am making my BF a scarf for this coming winter. The yarn is Ultra Alpaca by Berocco (50% Wool, 50% Alpaca) and it is so yummy to work with.
	This is a hat I am making for my friend's daughter who will be 3 years old in October. The yarn is Saucy by Reynolds and once completed it will have an upsidedown daisy on the top. The pattern is size 2-4 so I am hoping she gets a lot of use out of it before she outgrows it.
	This is a scarf that I saw as a sample at my LYS. I had the Matrix by Bernat yarn in my stash and the white one is Frog Tree Alpaca.
	This is my very first knitting project! I started this afgahn last Fall. The yarn is Chunky Softee by Bernat. Its too hot right now to work it, so I hope to start again in the Fall and be able to use it this winter!
	This is my very first "successful" sock. I made another in this pattern, but in my excitement to complete it I didn't read ahead in the pattern and I did not do the toe decreases correctly, so this is try #2 and it came out fine, now it just needs a mate :o)

Hi everybody...

I'm new to this blog and wanted to introduce myself before I show you my UFOs...

I'm a single mom of an almost 3 year old boy and I like to knit and crochet. We live in Dortmund, Germany and at the moment, I'm a SAHM. And as you all know, there are so many interesting things to craft, so I have some UFOs laying around. I already managed to finish a few, some were even tossed away and some more are still here.

Here is a short overview of the UFOs, I know about, but I'm sure I will find some more if I look deep enough in my storage:
- 2 crocheted pillows in rainbow colors for the room of my son (were 4, I already finished 2)
- crocheted bunny (just one leg left to do and a bit of sewing)
- doll sweater in pink (back is done)
- Lace scarf in black (about 50cm done)
- socks for me in red (one finished, second working on the heel)
- socks for my mom with wavy pattern (one finished, second not started yet)
- patch for a pillow, is part of a knitting round robin (about a 3rd finished)

I will try to finish an UFO before I start something new, but I already have some more plans what to do and they seem way more important to me than most of the UFOs... so we will see how it goes.

Photos will be shown later, perhaps tomorrow or during the weekend. Oh, and if you want to see my FOs, have a look at my blog. The UFO's that I can Find / Remember

Thank you for your invite to this knitalong. I have lot's of UFO's and feel very reassured that some of you also have UFO's running into double figures.

What I can find (too afraid to look too hard in case I find more) / remember at the moment are:

1. Man's aran sweater, Noah from Rowan magazine 41. This is all knitted and partly stitched up. I just need to stitch up one sleeve and side seam. This is for my son and was supposed to be an Easter gift! This is actually one of my more recent UFO's as it was only started in March this year and has only been waiting to be stitched up for a couple of months.

2. Cardigan from Rowan magazine 36. This is knitted in panels - two for the back and two for each sleeve. I started this in October 2004, and knitted the two back panels and one front. I decided to finish it off in November 2006 and knitted all the rest of the pieces before the end of 2006. I started stitching it all together in February but after stitching half of a sleeve to half of a back I abandoned it.

3. Simple raglan sweater knitted in some unknown pink/black chunky slub yarn from my stash. This was started in October 2006 as a quick knit sweater for me to wear whilst gardening. It has been waiting for me to knit the neck band since December 2006.

4. Fairisle cardigan from Rowan's Yorkshire Fable. I started this at my in-laws Christmas 2005. I have only done a small amount of the back - about 20cm. I'm not really happy with the effect and think I may have to be brave and frog it.

5. Black cardigan from Jean Moss's Sculptured Knits. This is my oldest UFO. I started this in 2000. (yes 2000! ). I have knitted both fronts and about three quarters of the back. The pattern is very textured with rib and lace. Combined with the black yarn it makes a knit in need of concentration and daylight. It also seems to have shrunk since I started it, or have I got larger, so not even sure if it will fit me now.

6. Tank Top from Rowan magazine 38. The one on the front cover. I knitted this in Nov/Dec 2005 and stitched up most of it then. I just need to stitch up one side seam.

7. Another Tank Top from Rowan magazine 38 but knitted in plain stocking stitch without the fairisle. The back is done and I'm halfway up the front.

8. A lovely cream cushion cover knitted in Jo Sharp classic dk and just in need of stitching up.

9. A couple of other cushion covers knitted in RY Classic DK from Classic Home book, also just in need of stitching up.

10. A lovely Di Gilpin shrug which was feature in knitting magazine two or three years ago. It's lacey and bobbly and absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately the chart printed in the magazine was incorrect and I spent some time ripping back and reknitting before I realised this. I have done about half of the shrug.

11. Nicki Epstein poncho knitted in Rowanspun dk. I started this in January 2006. This is a lovely knit - lot's of little triangles. I'm almost there with it but it's taking me so long to knit that I daren't get it out at my local SnB anymore because of the cries of "Are you still knitting that?"

12. Dollar and a Half cardigan from Interweave Knits Spring 2007. I was doing ok with this until I realised that the fronts were never going to meet across my ample chest. I need to frog the fronts and knit them in a larger size. I'm knitting this in Jaeger Luxury Tweed - my favourite yarn ever, and unfortunately discontinued.

13. Fairisle gloves knitted on 4 double pointed needles! I've done one glove, just need to do the fingers on the other but just can't face all that fiddling around with dpns.

Well that's all I'm admitting to now. I've the afternoon off work and it's raining torrentially here in Liverpool - has been for weeks now, so I'm going to have a cup of tea and get started on my UFO's.

My UFO List ( part 1!)

Well, I did it! I grabbed what I could- there are more UFO's out there but they're somewhat hidden and a thought struck me.....

...I have an awful lot of UFO's!

..I mean, there's the simple stuff, you know, the " why on earth did I knit that?" category. ( As it's a small pic, I can tell you it's an Aran cable with bobbles in a 6mm mohair mix yarn...suitable for the stick thin only!)

Suffice to say, that ( along with the front that is hidden somewhere in the house) will be dipped in the frog pond A.S.A.P.

This single sock goes in the same category, I frogged its half-knitted cousin a while back but somehow it seems a crime to rip something fully completed....

...I'll get over that though, the purl stitch hearts on the stocking stitch background make for a weird textured fabric.

Next on the list are genuine UFO's, Like the Roots and Branches Sweater from Inspired Cable Knits. I took it on hoilday, fully intending to start the front, which I did, but forgot the cable needle so got no farther than the rib...

It kind of got forgotten after that...

Then there's the bag from a kit that I pick up every once in a while when I get desperate, bored or otherwise unmotivated ( it's not exactly the hardest thing to knit but the idea of sewing up all the panels puts me off).

Then there's the " I don't have enough yarn but I'll make it fit" department.

I have all the pieces, but everything needs lengthening with a different yarn- a little inspiration needed to finish this one.

I knitted the back of this Colinette (Isis?) then realized I'd only used 2 of the 4 colours I had to make up the yardage. I need to knit up the front as the back, then make the back the front and do something clever with the sleeves...again, inspiration departs me...

Then there's this, my YoYo Jackety coaty thing. I have knitted everything except the last front rib...which is long...that's my only excuse.

I did a lot of tinkering with the original pattern 'cos it was so flawed and as it got towards the finishing post, I think I've lost confidence in my abilities...what if I finish it and it looks horrible?

I'm sure it'll be fine really but I need a wee boot up the backside t get finishing

Another in the category of " how can I make this yarn stretch out?" One side is all sewn up, but I lost the run of the weeny ball of yarn to sew up the sleeve and seam on the other side!

This Sirdar Bigga Jacket just needs sewing up and a dreaded zip...

a/ I don't like sewing up super chunky yarns

b/ I hate putting in zips 'cos they always come out wrong!

I REALLY hate sewing up Paton's Cargo, I learnt the hard way, it's a giant tubular knitted yarn and snags on the slightest thing.

everything's in place, it just needs the side seams sewing and buttons on the front, so, an easier UFO to finish ( or at least a quicker one!).

This was sort of another in the "what was I thinking of?" categories, It's fully sewn up but needs 2 pockets on the front ( I knitted 2 but lost one so need to knit another) and buttons down the front.

I'm not sure It'll really do me any favours though but am unlikely to re-knit it into anything else, if I have the heart, maybe I'll frog the lot and pass the yarn onto a charity shop so it's out of my sight!

To prove I'm a non-discriminatory UFO'er, here's a fully sewn up NORO Kureyon ribbed jacket- just needs a Z-I-P.

Only been a year ( or is it two?) since it's been like this...

This is bad!

...And following along with the same theme, a completed Colinette point 5 Jacket- Cerys.

Just needs a...you know the drill.

Then there are FO's that really do me no favours, this Ballerina style wraparound cardi was knitted fronm expensive Angora...and makes me look like ...you really don't want to know.

It's on the frog list when I have the heart to carefully unpick all the seams.

Last but not least, the finished sweater that needs a dye job!

It really is bright orange, I wanted to do a tie dye in the washing machine with a maroony red to tone it down a wee bit ( and get adventurous at the same time!)

Then there's the Alice Starmore sweater that's been stuffed in a bag somewhere for so long, I can't remember where it was last, the Twisted Float Shrug that I've barely started and probably other stuff I'll root out over time.

Well, I did say I needed help!

I like the idea of the 2:1 ratio of new stuff to UFO's but unfortunately, I have

1/ Adamas Shawl

2/ 5 of 6 Jaywalker socks for others

3/ Colinette Throw

4/ Mystery Stole KAL

5/ Eastern Style Jacket

on the needles at present as well as a packed spinning schedule.

I certainly don't plan casting on any more but for the time being, I want to devote one day a week to UFO's until I can finish some of my current stuff and make more time to attack the list in earnest.

Hiya, I'm Chris and I'm a Knitaholic!
Pity I'm not so hot on finishing stuff though!
I plan to get all my UFO's out this week so I can make a list and get cracking. Hopefully if I put one or two days aside each week , I can start whittling stuff down in between my other projects (and MS3 of course!).

First Blog entry!!!! and my UFO's x

This will be my very first blog posting ever! Thanks to Luci for inviting me and heres hoping it will be my first of many.

I've actually only found 4 UFOs so far, which seems so few in comparison, but saying that, i used to be a knitter who only had one thing on the go at any one time. During the last couple of years i've been led astray by the inspiration of the net and my new found knitting friends.

3 of my UFOs have been on my needles for far too long. i hope to take some pictures at the weekend to post but in the meantime here's my list -

1. Rosa from Rowan 40 in Violetta shade of Rowans kid silk haze - i'm a bit worried this will be itchy to wear as i have made a scarf in this yarn and i sometimes have a reaction to that when i wear it. i think thats whats putting me off progressing this one! It is a gorgeous colourway though and i do enjoy knitting with the yarn

2. Mini sweater (aka boobholder) in Patons Symphony - shade cocktail. I am knitting this for my 20 year old niece. I almost had it done for Christmas but i had problems adapting it, to be long sleeved as i had i hope it would be. i had to rip it back recently after she tried it on - i had got the sleeves right - eventually - but it was huge on the bust. I have promised to finish it for her asap!

3. Print O the Wave Stole by Eunny Jang in turquiose Merino lace - this is my first real lace project. The yarn is very fine and i've been knitting it on a 1mm circular. i've finished the central panel; just need to add the border and do the magical blocking!! I really enjoyed knitting it when i did it but have been at a stand still for some time now.

4. This one is perhaps a little bit of a cheat as its only been on my needles a few weeks but i'm looking forward to blogging about it. It is the Ripple weave sock - as seen here, with the valuble corrections:; in the mimoknits blog. i am knitting them in Hipknits cashmere sock yarn in shades of pink and grey.

look forward to getting my photos up next time and reporting progress.

I was trying to figure out how many UFOs I have and this is the list so far:

1- Debbie Bliss cardigan that I made for Oliver before he was born but needs sew it up
2- Bag for my mother-in-law which was supposed to be do for Christmas 2 years ago!
3- Rowan cardigan in denim yarn for Oliver
4- Rooster scarf for myself
5- Rowan tank top to sew it up
6- Lang cardigan

This are the one that I have found so far, I wouldn't be surprised if others might come up! Picture to follow this week...

One Down, Ten to Go

Okay....pressure is on. I finished one of the eleven UFO's this weekend.

I finished the Unger Fluffy Instant Sweater #3572 (Lacy Sleeve Sweater). I started this at some point in 1985. I was in my early 20's, so I made some design changes that I kept no notes for. For instance, the sweater was supposed to be 3" of 1x1 ribbing and then 16" of the called for pattern before any neck shaping took place. For some reason, I decided to make the 3" of ribbing and then knit for 12" in the called for pattern. Probably okay for a young person, but not so flattering for a 40+ person's mid-section.

I also decided to make short sleeves in place of the extra long ones called for. I made them by casting on 47 sts (23 on each side and 1 on the seam) and worked the body pattern for four repeats and then finished with 3" of the 1x1 ribbing. This makes the sleeves stop just above the elbow.

After I finished the seams, the Munchkin scooped it up and tried it on. It has officially become hers. I need to take it to the tailor to get a silk tank made so that I can tack it to the shoulder seams so that it is not so peek-a-boo as the designer planned. She is so excited to have a grown-up sweater, and I'm proud that she wants to add it to her collection. She can certainly use it since she will be a college graduate next year (May 2008).

I keep a running list of my UFOs here; well, kind of, I know that I have at least one project that is not listed there, but it is just a baby hat!

At the beginning of 2007 I took a photo of all my UFOs and vowed to finish them all by the end of the year (or frog the ones I was not interested in anymore):

Wow - I Have Eleven UFO's

As soon as I decided to join this KAL, I looked through all of my hiding spots and located 11, yes I said 11, UFO's.

I set about to sort them into categories: Blankets/Lap Throws, Baby Items, Socks, and Sweaters. Then, I ranked them in order from needing the least amount of work to be completed to needing the most amount of work to be completed.

Lost yet? I hope not. I am far to serious for my own good most of the time but I need a certain amount of structure.

I ended up with a list like this: four blankets/lap throws, one pair of socks, four baby items, and two sweaters. The sweaters win as the items with the least amount of work to do all the way around. How sad to admit that the backs of both are completed and the fronts are almost done. I need to finish the fronts, make the sleeves on one and the sleeve edges (sleeveless version) on the other and assemble.

I'll get pictures of both of them posted soon, as they are both from a 1985 Unger Fluffy Instant Sweater Booklet (Volume 357) and I can't seem to locate anything on the Internet from that era. Yes, I know, I am a bit old....

Keep your fingers crossed that I can finish these two by the end of this month.

That's the goal.

I had this idea of setting this knit-a-long after reading a post on the Frog in Knots blog, Alien Invasion. I can identify myself in everything she wrote and I thought that I have so many things that needs finish and so many I start and leave.

So here are the rules:

1. Anyone with any UFO are welcome to join
2. This knit-a-long doesn't have an end date, so anyone can join in at any time
3. You can buy yarns! I think it's a cruelty to impose a knitters not to buy yarns!
4. If you like to join please email me and I will send you an invitation to join the UFO-KNIT-A-LONG
5. Let's all have fun! We are probably bored with this projects so maybe we can encourage each others to change them from an UFO to a FO!
